Becoming a lawyer is not one of the easiest professions to get into. Not only does the person interested in the career need to have strong high school grades and a strong SAT score they will also need to have strong undergraduate grades in college and then get accepted into a law school for more years of schooling. Some students will drop out of law school before they even get their feet wet enough to understand the laws of the country and other students will become so successful in law school that they go on to become state prosecutors, judges, and famous lawyers.
Lawyers today make a ton of money but put in anywhere from 50 to 70 hours per day Monday through Friday. That’s anywhere from 10-14 hours of work per day. It is a rewarding profession though for most people. Some lawyers feel rewarded when they get their client acquitted of a crime they truly did not commit. Other lawyers feel rewarded when they get a suspect locked up for life for a horrendous crime they committed.
The first step in the process is to study hard in high school, college, and in law school to make it through the program. Taking and passing the LSAT is one of the most difficult tests to take in the country today but it is required to become a lawyer these days. Going to law school can be quite expensive so most students will need to obtain a loan from their bank or receive a grant from a local business to attend the school they were accepted to.
Once school is complete a student must pass the BAR prior to entering a courtroom and participating in litigation. If the BAR is not passed then the student will not be allowed to practice in the state of their residence. If a student wishes to practice law in another state other than where they went to school or where they live they must pass that state’s BAR too.
