December 10th, 2009Hiring an Immigration Lawyer
September 23rd, 2009Immigration is a hot button issue in the United States these days, especially illegal immigration to the country, which is when people from other countries reside in the United States without the proper documentation. If you or a loved one is considering visiting or living in the United States as a permanent resident, you should contact an immigration attorney immediately for legal counsel about your situation.
Applying for immigration licenses such as a visa or a green card can be difficult to accomplish on one’s own which is why hiring an immigration lawyer can make the difference between acquiring your proper documentation and being deported from the country. If you hire an immigration lawyer he or she will take care of all the paperwork, file it with the USCIS, and then make sure that the documentation arrives in a reasonable amount of time.
If you hire an immigration lawyer it will come at a high expense. Most immigration lawyers will charge anywhere from $100-$400 per hour for their services if they do not charge a flat fee for their services. A flat fee for an immigration lawyer can cost thousands of dollars and that amount does not include the fees that need to be paid to the USCIS when filing the required paperwork. A single piece of paperwork filed with the USCIS can cost anywhere from $1,000-$3,000. So, filing for a visa or a green card can cost thousands of dollars, which can be difficult for some to pay, which can cause many to be deported.
How to Obtain a Criminal Defense Lawyer
August 23rd, 2009If you or a loved one has been arrested for committing a crime you should contact a criminal defense lawyer immediately for expert legal counsel regarding your case. It isn’t that difficult to find a criminal defense lawyer in your area because there are thousands of criminal defense lawyers all across the country. The tricky part is determining whether or not the lawyer has enough expertise in the field to defend your case.
When beginning your search you should schedule consultations with at least five different lawyers before determining which one will represent you during your case. At the consultations you should ask each lawyer a list of questions regarding your case and how they would handle your case if it were to go to court. Also ask the lawyer how he or she will prevent the case from reaching litigation, enabling it to settle out of court.
Once the first five consultations are complete you need to dwindle the list down to two or three lawyers. Review all of the answers that the remaining lawyers have provided as well as their experience in the field. After looking over the information in your notes you can try to meet with each lawyer one more time or just choose the lawyer to represent your case. Once you make the choice you should determine how much the lawyer will cost and what other legal fees you will incur during the case. You should also make sure that you have all of the proper contact information of the lawyer.
Being Charged with DUI
August 3rd, 2009Being charged with DUI can be one of the most difficult things to happen to a person during their lifetime. If you are charged with DUI you should contact an attorney as soon as possible to begin setting up a defense for your case. A DUI defense attorney will begin investigating your case immediately in order to find any loophole in the charge possible. If there is no loophole in the case then the attorney will form the best defense strategy possible.
Having a DUI charge on your criminal record can ruin the rest of your life. Some people will not be able to obtain or hold a job, will lose income while serving time in jail, might not be allowed to enter a certain career field because of the DUI and will have to pay thousands of dollars in fines and doubled insurance rates.
DUI is one of the most common charges against drivers in the country today but the penalties are not common amongst all people charged with the offense. People convicted of a DUI offense can spend hundreds of days to years in jail while also losing a ton of money in legal fees, fines, and lawsuit money paid to the victim of the DUI.
Some attorneys practicing law today will charge their client a hefty defense fee, read the police report, tell their client to plead guilty and then not help you win your case in court. Other attorneys will not charge you as much, will investigate your case to fullest extent, will battle for you aggressively in court and help you as much as possible.
Becoming a Lawyer
July 17th, 2009Becoming a lawyer is not one of the easiest professions to get into. Not only does the person interested in the career need to have strong high school grades and a strong SAT score they will also need to have strong undergraduate grades in college and then get accepted into a law school for more years of schooling. Some students will drop out of law school before they even get their feet wet enough to understand the laws of the country and other students will become so successful in law school that they go on to become state prosecutors, judges, and famous lawyers.
Lawyers today make a ton of money but put in anywhere from 50 to 70 hours per day Monday through Friday. That’s anywhere from 10-14 hours of work per day. It is a rewarding profession though for most people. Some lawyers feel rewarded when they get their client acquitted of a crime they truly did not commit. Other lawyers feel rewarded when they get a suspect locked up for life for a horrendous crime they committed.
The first step in the process is to study hard in high school, college, and in law school to make it through the program. Taking and passing the LSAT is one of the most difficult tests to take in the country today but it is required to become a lawyer these days. Going to law school can be quite expensive so most students will need to obtain a loan from their bank or receive a grant from a local business to attend the school they were accepted to.
Once school is complete a student must pass the BAR prior to entering a courtroom and participating in litigation. If the BAR is not passed then the student will not be allowed to practice in the state of their residence. If a student wishes to practice law in another state other than where they went to school or where they live they must pass that state’s BAR too.
